Gravure printing uses water-based inks, which have environmentally friendly characteristics, and more and more people are paying attention to the industry. Before using water-based inks for gravure printing, it should be prepared in terms of printing plates, good drying equipment and surface treatment.

1, printing plate

The plate is electronically engraved with a gravure or laser engraved gravure with a cell depth of 15 - 25 um, which is shallower than the solvent ink intaglio. This is because the ink is produced by tap water, and the boiling point of water is higher than that of the solvent. Therefore, the ink is not easily volatilized, and the shallow plate can increase the printing speed and avoid water ripple. If printing with solvent-based ink, the plate depth of the plate is 35---40um, which is easy to produce water ripple; but when using ink printing, if the depth of the plate is above 25um, there will be water ripple, so choose the right one. The plate is crucial. The viscosity of the ink can be adjusted by using water, and the viscosity of the coating-4 is controlled to be 15---25 seconds/25 °C. If the viscosity is too high, the transfer performance of the ink will be poor, which may cause defects such as dirty plates and pastes.

2, good drying equipment

The drying temperature should be determined according to the difference of the substrate and the printing area. Such as aluminum foil wine label printing, drying temperature is above 100 ° C; plastic film printing, drying temperature is preferably 50 ~ 60 ° C. Wind power should be stronger than with solvent-based inks because hot air allows the ink to dry quickly after it is transferred to the substrate.

3, surface treatment

Except for aluminum foil, vacuum aluminized film, and paper, all plastic films require EDM treatment before ink printing to achieve a surface tension of 0.04 N/m or more. In the water produced by water as the main solvent, since the surface tension of water is about 0.072 N/m, it can be seen that the surface tension of the ink is greatly different from the surface tension of the film, which will affect the adhesion of the ink on the substrate and improve the plastic film. The surface tension improves the adhesion of the printed pattern to the film.
