XEMIS series magnetic suspension microbalance

XEMIS Magnetic Suspension Balance

XEMIS is the newly developed Magnetic Suspension Balance (MSB) for high-pressure adsorption research by Hiden Isochema in the United Kingdom. It has better performance, higher accuracy and better stability.

The maximum design pressure of XEMIS at 500 ° C is 200 bar. Its research and development is not to replace Hiden's existing intelligent gravimetric analyzer IGA, but to provide customers with solutions for gravimetric adsorption measurement under extreme conditions such as high temperature, high pressure and corrosive gases.

The name XEMIS (pronounced "zee-miss") was inspired by Themis, the Greek goddess, whose name means "sacred law", and usually she stands with a scale in her hand.

XEMIS key features:

· XEMIS Magnetic Suspension Balance uses Hiden's unique external sensing technology (Exosensing Technology) to place sensitive components outside the balance

· Compatible with gases and vapors tested by other magnetic levitation balances for corrosive gas measurement

· The maximum operating pressure is 200bar, which can be operated in the full temperature range of 77-773K

The uniquely designed micro balance beam is placed in a low-volume chamber sealed by a metal VCR

· Symmetrically designed flow and buoyancy compensation

design concept

This precision-designed XEMIS can perform fairly accurate and stable measurements under almost all conditions, even under high temperature and high pressure conditions. This microbalance uses Hiden Isochema's external sensing technology (Exosensing Technology). All sensitive components are placed outside the balance to prevent contamination or corrosion of the balance. The micro balance beam is magnetically suspended and controlled by external drive (exodrive) and external sensor (exosensor). Moving these components outside the balance chamber minimizes internal volume and reduces gas consumption.

In order to eliminate the influence of external magnetic fields, these external sensors, external drives and micro balance beams are shielded by high magnetic permeability to eliminate the interference of external magnetic fields. The micro balance chamber and the control device are placed in a protective shell that precisely regulates heat to eliminate the effects of external temperature fluctuations to keep the system stable. Like the IGA design, this is essential for high-precision gravity measurement.

XEMIS balances are geometrically symmetrical and can compensate for buoyancy and flow forces at high temperatures and pressures. The advantage of this design is that there is no need to re-calibrate or re-zero, and the micro balance is always stable, so that the relative error generated is extremely small, and the long-term stability is better than ± 5μG.

The design of XEMIS microbalance is inherently more stable than other magnetic suspension balance designs. This means that when making accurate measurements, XEMIS has good long-term stability during long-term measurements.

Common magnetic levitation balances generally have a permanent magnet attached to the sample holder, and then suspended with an electromagnet. Permanent magnets introduce greater buoyancy, so there is a greater potential error. For example, in order to meet high-pressure measurement, the sample size should be larger. The traditional magnetic levitation balance design also has obvious drift in measurement scale. To solve this problem, the balance must be periodically re-zeroed mechanically. This process is very time-consuming and kinetic data cannot be obtained during the adsorption measurement process. Unlike this, the excellent long-term stability of XEMIS microbalance means that its measurement process is continuous.

upgrade

XEMIS can be used as an independent balance. It contains Hiden Isochema control software, which can record kinetic data and adsorption performance, and can also be used in conjunction with the customer's existing gas delivery system.

Hiden can also provide XEMIS with an automated gas delivery system for adsorption research, so that XEMIS can be used as a fully automatic adsorption instrument. If equipped with Hiden's gas delivery system, XEMIS can achieve fully automatic programmable operation, including automatic conversion between gas inlets. Within a temperature range, multiple isotherms can be programmed and automatically measured for different adsorbates.

XEMIS can adapt to special applications by combining with IMI high-pressure volumetric adsorption system, and can tailor the weight / volume adsorption solution required by customers.
