Abstract: A folding device for folding a fold in a rotary printing press. The signature is cut from a continuous web of printing material by a cutting device and is conveyed on the folding transport surface of a folding knife cylinder by means of at least one circumferential belt-like conveying element. It is characterized in that the cutting device comprises a cutter arranged on the folding knife cylinder and a rotary anvil which cooperates with the cutter. Here, the surrounding belt-like conveying element is guided around a rotating anvil such that it acts as a counter-pressure element for the cutting knife during the cutting process of the signature.
