Color subtractive method

Let's first analyze the color rendering principles of cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y).

White light-red light = cyan (C)

White light-green light = magenta (M)

White light-blue light = yellow (Y)

That is, under the irradiation of white light, the cyan pigment can absorb red and reflect cyan, the yellow pigment can absorb blue and reflect yellow, and the magenta pigment can absorb green and reflect magenta.

In addition, if two pigments, Qinse and yellow, are mixed, under the irradiation of white light, because the mixed pigment absorbs red and blue, and reflects green, the mixed pigment appears green, and the mixing of the other two pigments is the same. which is:

Cyan pigment + yellow pigment = white-red-blue = green

Yellow pigment + magenta pigment = white-blue-green = red

Magenta pigment + cyan pigment = white-green-red = blue

It can be seen that the above are all subtractive color mixtures, that is, different colors formulated by absorbing the different proportions of the three primary colors. Therefore, the three colors of cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y) are called the primary colors of the colorants, and they are also the three ink base colors in printing.

In theory, when equal amounts of C, M, and Y pigments are mixed, the color should show a gray gradient from white to black as the percentage of ink increases, which is the most basic color of the subtractive color method. Law of change.

C + M + Y = black (white light-green light-blue light-red light)

But in fact, because the ink contains impurities, there are problems such as differences in density and reflectance, this ideal state does not exist, so if you want CMY mixed to show neutral gray, you must choose the appropriate percentage.
