Solving urban life garbage pollution

Harbin Institute of Technology in July 2003 a successful research and development of a new waste incineration technology, will not produce dioxin, sulfides, carbides and other toxic substances, is expected to solve long-disturbed urban household garbage pollution problems.
This new technology uses a stratified oxygen-supply combustion method for solid waste, intelligent autonomous control of equipment, and a secondary combustion method to re-combustion of flue gas pollutants. Industrial tests have shown that the peak temperature in the incinerator can reach 1120°C, which greatly exceeds the theoretical temperature of 800°C for killing dioxin; the time for the unit flue gas to stay in the high temperature environment of the furnace reaches 4 seconds, beyond the control Theoretical emissions of pollutants are doubled. After being put into use, the technology and its incinerator equipment can handle more than 200 tons of waste daily, and the investment in this technical equipment is only equivalent to 1/5 to 1/4 of the foreign equipment. In addition, the technical equipment is also filled with limestone, activated carbon and other adsorbent materials at the flue gas discharge channel to catch toxic fumes that may escape. According to experts, the heat generated by incineration of garbage can be used for power generation and heating, and non-toxic dust can also be used to process building materials.
According to statistics, the annual domestic garbage volume in some 670 cities in China has reached more than 100 million tons and is growing at an average annual rate of 4.8%. Only about 20% of these garbage are harmlessly treated. At present, China has established waste incineration plants in more than a dozen cities including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Harbin, etc., but all use foreign technology equipment.
According to Shi Yang, an expert from the China Urban Environmental Health Association, China strives to ensure that more than 85% of municipal solid waste is treated without pollution during 2010. To achieve this, facilities investment will cost 63.5 billion yuan.
