The State Post Bureau has recently investigated the basic conditions of 31 provinces and 6,000 couriers - "familiar strangers" have new portraits.

Waiting for express delivery, express delivery, and express delivery - For many city residents, the courier has become a "familiar stranger" who does not know much about it every day.

In 2018, China's express delivery business exceeded 50 billion, ranking first in the world; the size of couriers has reached more than 3 million. What is the working and living situation of the couriers? What is the income level? The State Post Bureau recently investigated the basic conditions of 31 provinces and 6,000 couriers across the country, and painted a “portrait” for the courier.

"80 after, 90 after" became the main body of the courier

During the “Double 11” period, the courier worked an average of 14 hours a day, and more than 80% of the couriers sent more than 200 pieces per day.

"Get up at 6:10 every day, get to the company at 6:40, and get off work after 8:30 in the evening. During the lunch, you can rest for 10 minutes at noon and go to work on holidays." "After 80" Master Li is at The express delivery industry has been working for two years. When talking about his work, he said that he worked very hard, mainly because of long working hours and heavy workload.

According to a survey conducted by the State Post Bureau, "post-80s and post-90s" constitute the main body of the courier team. The overall rejuvenation of the courier group is one of the effects of heavy work at the grassroots level.

On weekdays, Master Li will send 160-170 express parcels a day, and when the "double 11" express burst is encountered, the number of parcels will be doubled to 3 times.

A courier like Master Li is not a case. According to the State Post Bureau survey, during the “Double 11” period, couriers work an average of 14 hours a day, up to 19 hours, and more than 80% of couriers send more than 200 pieces per day.

Faced with the heavy end-of-delivery pressure, in recent years, many places have begun to try new forms of delivery such as smart express cabinets and stations, but their coverage and design obviously have to be improved. The area where Master Li is responsible for distribution is still the main door delivery. "Now there are more smart express cabinets, but when the parcels are large, the cabinets are full, and the volume is not suitable and can't be put in, only one can be delivered to the door." Master Li said.

In addition to the high work intensity, due to factors such as transportation, wind and sun are inevitable for the courier. According to the survey, electric tricycles are the preferred means of transportation for couriers. At present, it is difficult to have alternative products. In the first-tier cities, Guangzhou and Beijing express electric tricycles have higher usage rates of 87.2% and 84.42% respectively; Shanghai's main delivery tools are electric. Bicycles are used at 70%.

Miao Shifu, who has been in Beijing for many years, said: "Dry courier earns hard money. When it is coldest in winter, you have to drive a tricycle to run outside. 'Double 11' is busy and doesn't even have time to eat. When you are young, you have to eat two quickly. In the rain and snow, you have to deliver the goods normally. You have to worry about the package being damaged after it is wet. You need to take protective measures."

“Wan pay” is not universal

Although the income of couriers has generally increased during peak business hours, most of them do not exceed 10,000.

In recent years, news such as “a courier’s monthly income of tens of thousands” has frequently appeared in the network. The salary treatment given in many logistics enterprises’ recruitment information is also quite attractive. Some recruitment information even directly produces “salary 8000-12000”. Words. In the eyes of many people, the courier seems to be a high-paying industry.

"The company has only a monthly salary of more than 10,000, basically six or seven thousand, this is based on the number of our mail and the number of shipments." Miao Shifu said.

According to the survey, the monthly income of most couriers is still below 5,000. Although the income of couriers has generally increased during the “Double 11” period, most of them do not exceed 10,000. For many migrant workers, this is a surplus that is more than enough. "Revenue is not high, but it is relatively free, not working in the factory. To do express, I want to earn more points, I will take orders, how to arrange for me to have certain autonomy." SF Express courier Chen Shifu said.

For the courier, the customer does not understand the main pressure it faces. Master Li bluntly said that in the weekday work, there will be some customers with poor attitudes, and it is very difficult to communicate. "When the amount of delivery is large, the timeliness is difficult to guarantee. Some customers will remind me that I promise to send it before the time. It is really difficult to coordinate. If there is a customer complaint to the outlet, the company will impose a more serious punishment on us. There are some special circumstances. We can only admit that we are unlucky. For example, if the customer proposes damage to the package, I don’t know what is inside. It may be damaged during transportation, or it may be a problem with the sender. I have encountered such a bad piece. We can only compensate ourselves for the loss." Master Li said.

According to the State Post Bureau investigation, the main pressure of the courier comes from many aspects, including low wages and benefits, lack of understanding by customers, long working hours, low social identity, difficulty in sending shipments, and difficulty in promotion. From the professional experience, 35.8% of the couriers think that this career has a future, it is worth doing; 43.35% think it still needs to be done for a while; 20.85% clearly believe that it is only a transition, and will change jobs in the future.

For the future career planning, Master Li and many colleagues around me said that they intend to continue working for a few years, accumulate some work experience, and pay more for the family. At the same time, they also hope that people will have more understanding and understanding for the work of the courier.

Send the courier a "service pack"

Beijing plans to provide 2,400 rental properties for couriers, and Shanghai provides exclusive basic protection.

Working outside, the family is the concern of the couriers. According to the survey, 76.31% of couriers are from rural areas, 15.89% of couriers are from county towns, and only 7.8% are from cities. 66.15% of couriers have become married and 61% have children. 23% face the problem of “children staying behind”. Only 31.7% can see the children every three months, and nearly 70% can see the children in half a year or even one year.

"It is definitely a matter of missing children, but the income source of the family depends mainly on me. The wages for working out can be higher." Miao's home is in the countryside, and the children are in the home. Because of busy work and holidays, the rest time is very low. It is difficult to see the child. The same is true of Master Li, who is in his hometown in Henan. When he is busy, he does not return home during the New Year. The communication with his family mainly depends on video and telephone.

Talking about life in Beijing, Master Li bluntly said that because the company does not provide accommodation and catering, the monthly income must be deducted from these two expenses, and it can save more.

Master Liu also worked in a courier company in Beijing. He said: "Our company is better, there will be five risks, but there is no housing provident fund, and the company does not provide dormitory."

In response to the many problems faced by couriers in their work and life, more and more targeted measures have been taken recently. A few days ago, Beijing sent a special "service package" to the courier, mainly related to the balance of the courier service staff, improving and perfecting the labor security system of the express delivery industry, strengthening the construction of the terminal distribution infrastructure, and creating a warm and standardized career development environment. In terms of occupational accommodation balance, Beijing will help a group of courier staff to solve the dormitory problem, providing 2,400 sets of (s) rental housing (including renewal, new) as a courier staff quarter. According to the "Beijing Logistics Special Plan", according to a certain proportion, a batch of courier staff dormitory and supporting facilities that can only be rented, sold or managed in a unified manner.

Shanghai has recently introduced a basic protection policy for flexible employment groups such as couriers. The four types of protection are: hospitalization subsidy, special serious illness protection, accidental injury and severe disability protection, disease death protection, personal maximum protection. The amount reached 90,800/year; Jiangsu Province focused on cracking the end-of-delivery problem of express delivery, and promoted the implementation of special electric tricycles for express delivery. At present, many couriers such as Suzhou, Yancheng and Yangzhou can use express delivery special electric tricycle delivery express mail; Jilin Province will Promote the courier care project, enhance the happiness and sense of gains of employees as one of the seven practical things that the postal industry is close to the people's livelihood. Through sound internal control, implement the requirements of service quality standards, curb the behavior of “administering by penalty” and reduce the burden on frontline employees; Hebei Province has taken targeted measures to strengthen the protection of couriers (deliverers).

The industry believes that there are still many challenges in the express delivery industry, but in the long run, with the development of smart logistics and the implementation of supporting policies, the professional skills required by couriers will become higher and higher, and the role will be more important. The level will continue to increase and the salary will be improved.
